Mr. Stanfield
6th Grade Math
My name is Paul Stanfield. This is my Second year at Alexander Graham Middle School, and I am super excited to start this new year! A little bit about me…
I was born in Durham, NC, the home of Duke University. That said, I am a die-hard Tarheel, so hopefully that will not be held against me. Durham was my home until I left for Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, NC. From Boiling Springs, I moved to Nashville, TN, which was my first venture outside of our great state. I pursued music there for a few years, but my real reason for moving to Nashville (unbeknownst to me) was that I would meet my future wife there. After a few years, she moved to Virginia Beach, VA to attend Regent University. It was then we decided the time was right, we got engaged, married a year later and lived in Virginia Beach for four years.
I always knew I would return to North Carolina. I love this state, and I am definitely a homer when it comes to my sports teams. The summer that the Carolina Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup (one of my favorite moments in life...I know...pathetic) we decided to make a change, and we moved to Charlotte, where we have lived for the last 11 years. We love it here, and will definitely not be leaving any time soon.
Since the move, we have had two boys, Noah (will be nine in September), and Jakob (will be eight in December). Yes, 15 months apart. They are our joy, and being a parent has been the biggest blessing in my life by far. I truly believe being a dad only increases my ability, and desire, to teach the students that come into my classroom!
As far as activities outside of school and family go, I love music, love my guitars, and am completely obsessed with surfing...actually, anything at the beach. If I am at a beach, all is right with the world. I am one of the few hockey freaks in North Carolina. Being someone who struggles mightily with cold weather, the Carolina Hurricanes soften that blow when their season begins.
Anyway, we can all talk more later, but that is a bit about me. I am huge into stories. Seeing 6th graders write their story from August to June is my favorite part of teaching. I am ready for 2017-2018, and I hope they are too!
